On May 4th 1998, a coffee shop known as Perks Coffee House was created. In the 90’s, the community known as the High Desert was smaller than higher populated areas such as Santa Monica or the Bay Area. In Santa Monica everywhere you went there was a small café around the corner. The ability to grab a drink was at your mercy. When our owner, Tammi Wallace, moved to the High Desert she was in for a culture shock. She made it her mission to create a place where you could have a bit of the Bay Area at your fingertips and with a refreshing drink.

Perks Coffee House was blessed to make friends with another small Café known as Higher Grounds which created the Original Seattle Freeze. In 1993, their owner Betty was at a lose when her shop was put out of business by chain coffee companies. Tammi created a way to help Betty contract to lease for both the chocolate and recipe. To this day, Betty and Perks continue to work together to make a hometown favorite, the Seattle Freeze, readily available and for everyone to enjoy.
